I am so excited to be back at Burghley, it has got to be the biggest 4* in the world and I am so lucky to be one of the best jumpers in in eventing.
Wii Limbo…. Woody settled in really well and was working to the best of his ability. My dressage was on Thursday afternoon, sadly then you don’t quite get the ‘Friday scoring’ but he didn’t put a foot wrong and I was over the moon with him, he scored 46.4, and lay in 16th place going into cross country on Saturday!! All these results are only possible with all the help from the team outside the arena…. so a huge thank you to Angela Tucker for all your help at home and to Richard Davison for hel
ping in the warm up!
Next was the XC, and it did not disappoint, a huge and technical course with question after question, but I can not fault my wonder horse. He was flying, we came up to the rolex combination and we made up the 5 strides to the middle element too easily and then I wa then just a bit too backward to the corner coming out and picked up a very frustrating 20 penalties. Although on paper this is so disappointing as its his first run 20 penalties at 4* level but he was class from start to finish and I could not fault the way he felt anywhere. He has had nearly 2 years out from eventing and he’s come back to 4* level in avery short space of time, and finished the XC all guns blazing!
He felt great Sunday morning and flew through the trot up, next was the SJ. We were quite early in as there were a huge amount of eliminations and retires on the XC course, but the SJ too was causing a lot of trouble and when we went in there wasn’t yet a clear round. But Woody felt better than ever, and jumped a superb clear SJ. He is always better on the last day of a 3 day event as he is tired so doesnt argue as much, but today he was a dream, he nearly jumped me off a couple of times!!!
I can’t believe he can come back feeling this good! Thank you Sam, Suzy and Lucy for owning this dream horse! Brooke you’ve made him look beautiful all week! Thank you so much for the photos from the photographs at Burghley this week!
One small error from me, stopped Woody
from producing his fourth 4* double clear on the trot, but as far as he’s concerned he were perfect! So so so proud of this horse who I’ve had since a 3yo and we’ve enjoyed so many highs and lows together! This wouldn’t be possible without his amazing owners. Along with Brooke for turning him out beautifully and to Tui and Hannah for holding the fort at home!
